Frequency converters (VFD)
Together with Schneider Electric, Hoyer Drives & Controls offers VFD frequency converters. With Hoyer Drives & controls as the sole point of contact, you have a partner who understands your application requirements and delivers a complete motor and VFD solution to optimise your supply chain.

Why use a VFD frequency converter?
With greater demands on process optimisation and energy savings, the VFD frequency converter has become an important component for speed and torque regulation of electric motors.
With a VFD you can achieve the following benefits:
- Energy savings up to 50%
- Precise speed and torque control
- Optimised process control
- Soft start and stop
- Savings on other control equipment
General information
The demand for higher energy efficiency and process optimisation means that our electric motors are often controlled by frequency converters.
As experts in electric motors and frequency converters, we have a strategic partnership for VFD frequency converters with the market leading manufacturer of VFDs, Schneider Electric. This ensures that we can offer an optimal mix of technical insight and commercial flexibility while always offering Hoyer as the sole point of contact. We offer combined motor and VFD solutions that match your market, application and project requirements.

Stand-alone

Stand-alone (high protection class)
Our stand-alone drives can be both centralised and decentralised solutions. They are used in a wide range of applications in all our segments. Compared to integrated solutions, they support all motor sizes in the Hoyer Motors range. In addition, they ensure savings on control panels, installation and long EMC shielded cables compared to panel-installed VFD solutions.
Panel-installed VFD solutions (low protection class)
This solution is intended for centralised panel installation or placement in dry environments where IP21 is sufficient. It is used for all types of converter-driven applications across industries. Compared to other solutions, centrally placed drives often have the advantage of positioning in optimal environments where the risk of damage due to moisture, corrosion, vibration, dust, etc. is limited. If there is an existing panel where the VFD can be built in, this type of VFD can be a cost effective alternative to the integrated and stand-alone drives.

Application benefits
We can offer customised complete motor and VFD solutions that add value to your applications and supply chains. VFD solutions can be used in several different applications and the benefits are many.
Pumps
- Energy savings by reducing speed and flow in centrifugal pumps.
- 20% flow reduction (≈ energy savings of up to approx. 50% compared to valve regulation).
- Softer starting and stopping reduces stress and strain on pipe systems.
- Ability to utilise pump capacity by running over-synchronous speed.
- The integrated ATV 630 and ATV 650 pump curve function provides cost savings on flow transmitters.
- VFD as cascade control for multiple pumps on the same pressure control systems.
Fans and ventilation
- Energy savings by reducing speed and flow in ventilation systems.
- Ability to utilise fan capacity by running over-synchronous speed.
- Ability to reduce acoustic noise and resonance in the ventilation system.
- Safety features such as safe stopping and forced safe speed for smoke extraction.
- Easy retrofitting on existing ventilation systems.
- Good alternative to 2-speed motors for ventilation pumps.
Compressors
- 10-15% energy saving on screw compressors compared to slide controls.
- Longer compressor life.
- Optimised starting and regulation of piston compressors.
- VFD cascade control for multiple compressors.
- Ability to utilise compressor capacity by running over-synchronous speed.
Hydraulics
- Energy savings by reducing speed and flow as an alternative to bypass systems.
- Softer starting and stopping reduces stress and strain on the hydraulic system.
- Ability to utilise system capacity by running over-synchronous speed.
- VFD as cascade control for multiple HPUs on the same pressure control systems.
