Hoyer embarks on FLNG project for offshore efficiency

When it comes to building a state-of-the-art offshore unit, every detail counts. Hoyer contributes to powering ENI’s newbuild FLNG unit by supplying energy-efficient electric motors, ensuring reliable performance and sustainability throughout its operations.

18/07/2024

Hoyer is set to provide explosion-proof marine motors for a sustainable Floating Liquefied Natural Gas (FLNG) unit operated by ENI, an Italian multinational energy company. This project aims to support the energy transition in the Republic of Congo, aligning with Hoyer's new strategy to become a 'Green Transition Partner' to our customers – committed to embracing sustainable practices.

Growing the footprint within floating platforms in the gas industry

As the floating platform industry grows significantly, Hoyer is stepping into this expanding market by providing high energy-efficient electric motors for distinct applications on the FLNG unit project, thereby helping to reduce energy consumption.

This project is part of ENI’s strategy to secure gas equity and support the Republic of Congo’s energy transition by offering a cleaner, sustainable energy source for domestic use and export. The FLNG unit will utilise zero-flaring technology to minimise greenhouse gas emissions.

"We are pleased to be involved in this prestigious project, which aligns with our strategy to prioritise green applications and industries. This project offers an ideal opportunity for us to introduce our electric motors for floating platforms, particularly our explosion-proof marine motors," says Jonas Løgstrup Hansen, Energy Segment Manager at Hoyer.

Jonas Løgstrup Hansen adds, “To build a state-of-the-art vessel, energy-efficient components are a priority. By supplying our electric motors for several applications onboard, it proves we have the scope to meet market demands.”

Enhancing project flexibility through optimised local setup

It is essential to ensure flexibility and efficiency throughout all aspects of this project. With the vessel being constructed in China, choosing local sourcing of the vessel’s components enhances efficiency and reduces transport related emissions. As a global company with local operations in China, Hoyer utilises a domestic supply chain to ensure efficient and timely delivery.

Jonas Løgstrup Hansen emphasises, "Having a dependable supply chain is absolutely key to the success of this project. Our presence in China ensures not only timely delivery but also proactive aftersales support and effective communication with local OEMs. We understand the market demands and expectations including key areas such as project management and documentation."

This project is another steppingstone for Hoyer, facilitating the expanding footprint within the global energy niche markets, while also paving the way for more advanced project offerings.
